Week 52- Hot Stripes

And we come to the last pattern of the year! It’s another hot water bottle cover, have a look all the way back to Week 3 if you fancy another free pattern. This week’s has a diagonal band of reverse stocking stitch running around it. I have used Noro’s Kureopatora, an aran weight yarn I have held double to give a firm fabric with some interesting colour changes. Find the pattern for free here!

Week 51- Alice Beret

Yet another hat! But you can never have too many… This is a relaxed beret style hat which can be made from just one ball of Noro Tonkonatsu (if you don’t want a contrast rib), a lovely tweedy yarn I have used a lot before. The pattern is available for free and can be found on Ravelry here!

Week 50- Blue John’s Socks

Another sock pattern! These seamless socks are a great birthday or Christmas present for dads, husbands, boyfriends, etc. They have two simple cables running up the front and are to fit a UK size 10, but the foot length is adjustable. The pattern is free and can be found here. They use one 100g ball, I have used Rico Superba Caramba which makes some lovely stripes, but the cables on this would stand out more in a plain sock yarn, depends what you like 🙂

Week 48- Big Ol’ Socks

These socks are great for lounging round the house in the cold. They have calf shaping and toe shaping but no heel shaping so you can just pull them on. I have also added some little pom poms on the back 🙂 They are knitted in King Cole’s Big Value Super Chunky Twist which is a solid colour with just a hint of a fleck every now and again. These socks are made in the round using 10mm needles so no bulky seams!  They will fit quite a range of shoe sizes, approx UK size 3-7. The pattern can be found for free here!

Week 47- Max’s Blanket

This week’s pattern is so simple! It would make a great first project if you have use for a baby blanket. It uses just over two balls of Stylecraft Special Chunky, and is knitted on 6.5mm needles so grows nice and quickly. This blanket had alternating squares of stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitch so the blanket looks pretty much the same on both sides. This one is about 85cm x 95cm so perfect for a pram or car seat. You can find the pattern for free on Ravelry here.

Weeks 45 and 46- Naomi Hat and Scarf

This is a super simple set, great for a beginner and will knit up in no time! Each item only uses one 50g ball of Melange Chunky. Both the hat and the scarf feature bands of rib and stocking stitch. You could also sew the ends of the scarf together to make a cowl if you prefer. The hat is done in the round so now sewing up at all for this set.

This set is unisex and would look great in more earthy colours for a man. Find the patterns for free here and here!

Week 44- Name that Baby!

This week’s pattern is completely up to you! The pattern is for a simple baby jumper with rolled edges and contrast rib. The front can then be customised with the name of your baby 🙂 The pattern includes the right size chart for the size you chose, and you fill in the name before you start knitting. The pattern can be found for free here. The yarn I have used is Stylecraft Special DK, it comes in literally hundreds of colours and washes so well it’s great for kiddies things.
